I recently pressed my Besson Sovereign BBb (Model 992) back into service. The serial reads 992-720XXX, suggesting that it dates from the mid 1980's. It plays super, even the top end.
I mostly play CC and F, but I love playing this tuba when I get the opportunity. I hope it doesn't raise a few hackles when I say that it produces a great "band sound" as opposed to a great "orchestra sound".
How long were they in production?
Thank you,
Kathott

The 992 was made from around 1980 until the early 1990's. Many BBb bass players in the UK prefer the 992 to their replacement, the 994. Enjoy!
