A plug for a great new work for brass quintet:
vox merus, a Dublin (Ireland) based brass quintet, has recently recorded a work written by Irish composer Daniel Barkley entitled Five Run Away Together. This piece was featured in the group's 2011 debut tour, Introduction to Brass (funded by the Music Network Performance and Touring Award), and was well received by audience members and players alike.
To hear the piece, you can access the digital release at the http://www.voxmerus.com - Daniel can be contacted directly at http://www.danielbarkleymusic.com.
Thanks for reading!

The music network performance and tour award brought Oynx Brass to Mullingar did your quintet give master classes to local players as well while on the tour?
Just finished listening and downloading well worth the 99 cent

Hi - we had planned to offer workshops at each tour date but in the end only Cork School of Music took us up on it - we had an excellent time with Tony Neal and his students...
The Onyx tour was actually a Music Network own promotion, meaning the group were hand-picked and offered to associate venues rather than going through the rigorous application procedure of the Performance & Touring Award - interesting, their choice to sponsor a UK ensemble to tour the country...
Glad you like the track, Danny just completed a second Quintet, Five on a Treasure Island, which we hope to record this year!
All best,
Alex

Is the Performance and Touring award scheme going to continue?

All I know is that the last application round (summer 2011) was entitled "Final" - I think that the Arts Council has retaken the reins on that particular funding stream but we'll all find out together!
