What do you do...?

Post by J.c. Sherman »

What do you do?

I now have the carcass of a Conn 20 J which is in reasonable condition - but the valves are kaput. I'm in a town moving away from the German Alexander style and more Yorkbrunneren are invading, which makes me think a 6/4 'murican tuba is in order.

I know also that I could get an econo-bell or change the bell-front... but it's inelegant, and I could also order a new bell from Lee Stofer. Now we're getting into an investment...

CC? BBb? Graft a Yamaha Rotor section to it? Buy some pistons? Buy a MeinlSchmidt Ubercompenstenrotormassemonkeyvalven?

Who has ideas? Could this be made into a great BAT?

If the branch that runs by the valve section (you know... the one that takes all the sweaty palms!) is good... just keep it around for parts.

A shame that NEOh is going away from that gorgeous Alex sound. See my comments in Oystein's thread here and on Facebook...

Stick with the Alex sound, and remind people why they should love it. The 'bruner invasion shall pass

- That is what I would do. I am in NYC, which is hardly Alex territory, I am not trading up anytime soon.

Check out Tubatom's (?) front valve conversion. Make yours a cheap Bb BAT, but first finish my horn! :P
Or beat up every kid with a York-clone and stay with your"Alex", which I remember to be a Kalison.

Don't worry, Bob - Nothing's going to happen until your beast is done. :D

Wish I could see the end-product of Harv's experiment. Knew about the Minick... That's a BBb, correct?

I am looking for just such a body. I have a nearly-new MM front-action BBb piston valve set that I'd like to graft onto it. The product will be too big and heavy for me to schlep around, but someone might like it.
