Bill, your ensemble sounded wonderful on the Strauss. Even on this non-pro recording, there's a nice balance between the organ and the brass.

...which leads me to a pet peeve. It can be frustrating when an arrangement for organ and brass ensemble never deviates from having the tuba simply doubling the organ pedal. Depending upon how insensitive the arranger has been, the organ registration, the church acoustics, often the tuba has no hope of being heard.

It takes a deft hand to effectively arrange for brass and organ. From this video, it sounds like there was judicious use of both forces.

the group was made up of 4/5ths of our quintet (Midtown Brass) and one local Atlanta guy (playing the top trumpet part, he is a beast) and then there were 2 trumpets and 3 bones and one other tuba that we had never met. We ran it once on the day before and called it good. The pedal stuff was ad lib and the organist is a great player and I think we just played off of each other to not get in each others way.
And if anyone is geeking out, I'm playing my PCK that I picked up this year in trade and I'm loving that horn.
