Howdy fellow tubenetters,

does anyone know of a mouthpiece similar to the Bach 24AW without the big fat rim?

A 24A would be interesting but I have never seen one. Also the 24 rim is a bit small in diameter. I have played the Wick 3L already and it is close, any others? again perhaps with a larger diameter rim.

it wold be cool to have an A cup on an 18 or 22 rim.

i love the fat sound I get with that mouthpiece but i really do not care for the rim.

it has been a long time since I had a 25 but i seem to think that is a pretty small mouthpiece.

Perhaps you could make a new mouthepice bottom with a big ol' bowl like on the 24AW or those old King sousaphone mouthepices, King 26? i think they were numbered.

The bowl is almost pear shaped in that it is wider than the rim diameter.

i don't know that it is the depth of the bowl as much as the shape of it, as I mentioned the bowl on the 24AW is shaped like a pear.

hmmmm.....

From what I've read, the cup depth on Bach mouthpieces runs from A (kinda deep) to E (kinda shallow) with C being middling. Any mouthpiece without a letter is a C by default, so a 25 is actually a 25C (hence shallower than a 24AW).

I read somewhere that the Mike Finn 1 resembles the King 26, but I don't know about the rim width. I only played a King 26 once, and I seem to remember its rim being very round, and fairly wide.

The PT-89 has a deep, bowl cup with a fairly large throat. The cup is a little wider than a 24AW. The rim is a little rounder and wider than a Bach 18, but not nearly as wide as a 24AW. I think it sounds and plays very similarly to my King 26. The Mike Finn 2B has a rim that is about the same width as an 18, but has a different feel to it. It also has a similar type cup to these other mouthpieces.

yea the king 26 is fairly similar to the 24AW.
