Ben Thomson, Principal Tuba with the BBC Scottish Symphony, has just premièred a new commission by Thea Musgrave, a tuba solo called "Loch Ness - A postcard from Scotland". It's a BBC commission.

Stunningly played on BBC Radio 3 from the Albert Hall, London, if you've access to BBC iPlayer you'll catch it there.

Loved the playing.was underwhelmed by the piece.very vertical and disjointed.give me some horizontal melody.but glad for a tuba feature, nonetheless ...

It wasn't written as a tuba solo. Its not intended the tuba player should sit/stand out the front. He plays the role of dear old Nessy. Its a concertante role.
