Hi everyone!
I'm in need of a new mouthpiece. I friend of mine recently let me borrow his PT88 and I love how it plays. I've been looking at getting one but I'm not sure about the difference between the PT88 models. Do they all play the same? what are the differences? Recommendations?
Thanks!!!

Nick

The PT-88+ is a heavy walled mouthpiece - much thicker and heavier than the PT-88. I do not know about the PT-88s.

The 's' on the end of PT mouthpieces indicates a smaller shank. How small, I don't know.

I have a PT 88s and it fits in my 1291 BBb just like the Miraphone mouthpieces.

Found some answers. On this page ...
... there's this:
  • Tuba Shank Designations

Perantucci tuba mouthpieces are available with the following shanks:

    No Indication: (15.2 mm)
Standard shank, for contemporary CC and BBb tubas with large receivers.

    "S" on shank: (14.8 mm)
One size smaller, for CC and BBb tubas with small receivers and most Eb and F tubas.

    "XS" on shank: (14.5 mm)
For Eb or F tubas with particularly small receivers.

    "AM" on shank: (14.2 mm)
For instruments with extremely small receivers.
(looks like these diameters are about 1.25" back from the end of the "pointy part")

Then there are these pages on the PT-88+ and PT-88S:
Finally, at the bottom of this page ...
... is a listing of various tuba shank sizes. Long story short, the Perantucci standard size is the large European size, and the "S" size is the American size.
