I'm going to the Midwest clinic in Chicago this year to perform with my schools jazz band (hoover first edition), and we get to visit the vendors and I was wondering if there are usually many tubas to try out.

Yes and no. Yes there are many tubas to try, but it usually dependent upon the year as to the variety of the tubas to try. A place like Custom Music will always have a stand with many tubas but there are sometimes smaller vendors (usually used dealers) who may bring a few tubas or they may bring many tubas depending on what they have and what they're trying to sell.

Usually you will see most of the manufacturers there with pretty good selection of their products. I will be with Miraphone and they will have at least 17 horns to try. Meinl Weston usually has a nice assortment of their horns including their newest models. Gemeinhartd, Jupiter, M&M Tuba, Besson and others will also be there. So there will be quite a number of horns to play. The only problem is that it is in a very large room that has a lot of noise going on. Also, most of the tubas are in the same area do it can get pretty loud. Go an have fun!

All the best.

That's why I go! Sometimes I'll arrive before the exhibits open and have to wait, twitching my hands and pacing back and forth. Good times! :D
