Is there a tuba part in Brahms first symphony? Thanks for quick answers!

No. The second symphony is the only one of his four symphonies that has a tuba part.

I was asked once to play the contra basson part. It is fun and challenging. The hard part was playing SOFTLY and making all the runs. I sat in the ww section, next to the second bassoon. (got paid extra, too!)

I just did that last weekend; more fun than we typically have in Brahms (though I was a little squeemish... I do like my historically informed performance!)

I loved starting on the quiet pedal C and the not-too-quiet pedal Bb near the end

There's also a really nice low-low D-flat in the contrabuffoon part. Lots of fun! I have done it twice now on tuba, in orchestras that were glad to have me.

Did it twice for groups too cheap to hire a contra when I was already on the program. I always enjoy breaking out my 184 in an orchestra setting. Loved those chorales in the 4th movement.
