Hirsbrunner front comp. piston Eb?

Post by TheHatTuba »

Has anyone here played a Hirsbrunner front action piston comp. Eb? How do they compare to the Bessons?

Didn't Oystein start his career on one of these? He said it was a common instrument in the Norwegian Military Bands. I've never seen one.

I played a NON-comp one for a while a few years back. Terrible horn, stiff, funny intonation,...

Yes, I've played 2 of them, one at the 2011 Musikmesse and recently a privately owned one.
It's a very good Eb tuba. I used to own a Besson 983 and while I liked it, the HB was a better instrument.
Having said that, Mr.Tuba's Mark Carter built his own "York" version and that's a step up from the HB...
cheers
