Basically using the same idea as a double-bell euph, the 5th valve opens up the 2nd bell with a more trombone-like sound, while the main bell is more mellow and euphonium-like.

Yeah, I noticed that. Most of those guys look to be pretty rough--------I wouldn't want to meet up with them in a dark alley. Compared to them, most tuba players these days look downright pleasant.
