Horn dorn (fall addition)

Post by Daniel C. Oberloh »

Finally managed to get pair of double bell euphoniums wrapped up. I have slowly been working my way out from under a pile of backlog projects so here are some of the latest results that I thought might be fun and worth sharing.

Image
To the left is a late 20s/early 30s ''stencile'' made by C.G. Conn and branded American Educator. To the right is one of the version of the C.G. Conn 30-I, made in the late 1930s. Fun horns but a serious pain in the butt to rebuild.

Thanks Joe,
Must be tough finding buffing gloves. :D I spent a lot more time on the two then I had anticiapated, rebuilding the valves and making a number of parts took time. Both horns were pretty involved and quite tedious but in the end, they play pretty darn well. I am glad to say that I am very happy with the final results.

What are the dark dots on the upper bow of both horns? Lyre holders?

And I who had hoped they were true artificial Baroque style vents to add that je ne sai quoi.

Alone holding both takes skills. Play them in duet, and you are ready for the big tent!

Here is a shot of my Besson 181 with a gold bell Dan did for me this spring.

Kinda buried in the rest of the band.
