:tuba:Hi, all, I'm currently a high school student looking to bring a ~4,000 dollar CC tuba to college in a few years. I'd like to inquire if anyone has tips to saving $4,000 as a high school student, I'm not 18, so that limits my options. Any advice would be helpful, jobs, etc. I also have a 4 valve BBb piston upright tuba I want to sell, towards my CC tuba fund, anyone interested, please post. The BBb tuba is a Sterling, the company who makes the Virtuoso Series Euphoniums. Thanks!

- Haul trash
- Do odd jobs
- Clean out attics
- Clean out basements
- Clean out garages

All this stuff can be done in your own spare time. Put away $20 a week for two years and you will be half way to that new tuba. Of course, $40 a week will get you there.

Minimum wage is $7.25. Get a 10 hour/week job, and you'll have $4,000 in a year.

Also, depending on how densely populated of an area you live in, dog sitting and dog walking are good, fun, and easy ways to make money.

Living in an apartment in NYC, there are a ton of dogs and a ton of people always going on vacation, working late, etc. I make a lot of extra money doing this...getting paid to play with a dog is pretty cool.

Of course... all this money just goes to pay for our own dog and her dog sitter, but you get the point.

1. Get a job. Any old job will do.

2. Open a checking account and a savings account.

3. Create a budget that includes transportation costs (both work, school, and social), clothing costs, music costs, food costs, social costs, savings (see 4 below), etc. If your parents will still pay for your stuff, great, but be prepared for them to pull the rug out from under you now that you're making money. If you do not plan to waste money, you will waste even more money unless you are incredibly self-disciplined.

4. Transfer a set amount of money each month from the checking account into the savings account and do not touch it. Maybe $100 per month. In two years, that would be $2400, which, when combined with the sale of your current tuba, probably would give you enough money to buy a $4000 tuba.

The summer before I left for college I needed to make some money fast to buy a computer. So I put out some fliers at my parent's work offering to take unwanted items out of people's home with the intention of selling whatever I got in a garage sale. I really tried to push for larger items like furniture. After a week of collecting stuff, I held a garage sale on two consecutive Saturdays. I ended up getting close to $1,500, which was more than I had ever anticipated! You have to get creative. Opportunity is out there, you just have to work for it!
