I bought an MTS case from Baltimore Brass about six years ago, and it works well except for the tiny, unstable wheels (when pulled instead of pushed). Dave Fedderly believed that it was from a newly revised factory mold. Sorry, but I do not remember the case's model number, and I don't see it on the case anywhere.
The CC horn is model Willson 3050RZ CC, 4+1.

I've been playing a 3050 for the past 17 1/2 years and carrying it in 2 different RB bags (cordura now leather). I've never experienced this. I believe the Cronkite bags are the best choice for these horns due to the weight. Sounds like the problem is in the valve stem, it's self. Give the peeps at Willson a call. They are proud of their work and will want to make it right. I have WJ case that works great but the MTS 1209 will work.

If your student is still looking for a hard case, I have a hard case for my 3050 that I'm looking to part with. I'm located in NYC.

FWIW, I also use an old "Reunion Blues" gig bag for my 3050S FA-5 when I'm going back and forth. Being extremely finicky about the performance of valves, I didn't want to put a piston tuba into a gig back and risk any mis-alignment or bending of the valve stems. I use a Donna Altieri "Piston Pad" to secure the pistons in the "down" position when moving the tuba in a gig bag. I've never had any issues with valve stems or valve caps bending or coming off. I also don't store the tuba with the piston pad velcroed down, either.
Might be something to consider to prevent similar issues in the future. In the meantime, contact Herr Kurath for a mechanical solution to the current issue. They are justifiably proud of their work, and stand behind their products.

The MTS case for the Willson 3050 is the 1207V. It will be quite snug at first but the memory foam will relax in time and become a quite comfortable fit for that instrument.
All the best.
