Using an Apogee MiC?

Hi,
I'm thinking of grabbing an Apogee MiC to use with my iPhone 5 to record good sounding video performances of my brass quintet (and Balkan band, mixed chamber ensemble, rock ensemble etc..).
The built in mic is just way too noisy and does not produce a good sound, but the HD video looks good!
Does anyone have any experience with these mics? They aren't cheap ($250 ish) so I'd rather not grab something that won't sound good.
They are a cardioid mic and have received good reviews, I'm just not sure if it will sound well with a full ensemble.
I also have a Blue Snowball mic (USB), Giant Squid Audio (1/8" jack) and a SM57 (XLR), all of these would work, but I would have to buy an interface. The folks at Sam Ash on the phone really didn't understand what I was talking about and asked to call me back and the Apple guys on the phone basically said, we have the Apogee and yeah, maybe one or two others (AKA, not quite answering my questions).
I'm open to other suggestions and could go for either a good interface or perhaps another mic (although I don't want to spend much over what the Apogee is).
Thanks,
Bill
