I recently purchased a Miraphone case for my Conn 3J tuba. I bought the medium case (same as used for a Miraphone 186, 187, or 188 tuba). I was going back and forth between the medium case and the large case which is used for Miraphone 1291 or 291 tuba.
I am curious if anyone has had experience with both sized cases. My tuba has an 18" bell and is 35" long.

I have called most of the suppliers, and nobody has info other than the above mentioned tubas they are sized for.

My tuba fits in the case, but the bell is actually below the zipper (top loading case). I am debating putting a piece of foam in the bottom of the case so that the bell will be higher and closer to the hard protection in the lid of the case, or to try the larger size.

My only reason for trying the larger size is based on the specs I read of the horns that go in these cases, all of the horns for the large case seem to have a bigger bell but are shorter (which might work better for me).

So my long winded description comes down to this... Aside from the bigger bell of the large Miraphone case- is it longer or shorter overall in comparison to the medium case?

The 186 bag is taller than the 1291 bag by a couple of inches. Ideally, posting the measurements of the horn you are trying to put in the bag would be helpful. I am no that familiar with the Conn instruments. The 1291 bag is for a horn about 35" tall and with an 18 1/2" bell.

Well, I have tried the medium Miraphone bag, and I just got the large Miraphone gig bag, and it is a much better fit!
The large bag is actually shorter in length (perhaps 3-4 inches) then the medium, and the bell diameter is about a 1/2"-1" bigger. (the bag seems smaller than the medium, but it works! ) . I thought I posted the dimensions in my first post, but the bell is 18" and the horn length is 35"
