I have replaced rotary and piston valve sections on various tubas over the years and it never worked. No matter what direction the swap took, the resulting horn was 'less.'

For example, I had high hopes for a Conn 24J with a .770" rotary valve section and felt sure it would make an improved BBb tuba. Nope. Sucked. I don't know why.

When I re-attached the piston valves, it was back to a 24J again except uglier.

I have no theory as to why it didn't work, but I wouldn't mess with a B&S Symphonic F if I had one. I'd just play it.
