Nickle Silver

Post by IkeH »

The other day, I was discussing different finishes and their effect on playing with a trumpet player(yeah, I know), and I think I was correct in saying nickle silver(or German silver) was neither nickle or silver, but a derivative of brass with less or no copper content, something to that effect. I tried searching this forum for a better description with no luck, seemed like I'd seen more on this subject here before. Maybe someone would step in and give a good paragraph about this subject.

Nickel+copper+zinc. It doesn't tarnish like silver, but many are allergic, so it tends to be coated with laquer on horns.
