Not switching the main tuning slide, but (if I understand this correctly) Will Druitt created his so-called 5450WD by having the throat and bell from a 6450 installed onto his Thor.

I think this fits into the class of experiments that start with "here, hold my beer, I want to try something...."

Okay, I'm a little curious.

Rather than one person carrying the cost of the experiment, are there any other Thor owners out there who'd be interested in sharing the cost?

Is this the part where I get to say, "You should try a Big Mouth Brass tuba, they are way better than a Thor for much less money?"
