There is a very interesting photo that comes from a fascinating website, http://www.moviebrass.com, which has biographical information about Tommy Johnson, Jim Self, and John Fletcher.
The photo is copyrighted, so it has not been cut and pasted to TubeNet. Don't worry--it is rated for family viewing.
You can even print out the tuba solo, Jabba the Hutt, from this website (I wonder how that got by the copyright police!).

It used to be on CD that Philips titled "Out of this world". Same track, of course.Jonathantuba wrote:It is on John Williams FROM THE STAR WARS TRILOGY (Philips 432 050-2). Chester Schmitz plays it with the Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by Williams. It is a really superb performance - possibly better than that on the film soundtrack.
I've watched the movies several times, but I've never heard the tuba solo in the soundtrack. Where does it appear?

Amazingly, it appears in the first film, although it's on the soundtrack for the third. The "new" scene with Jabba the Hutt is where it occurs:Rick Denney wrote:It used to be on CD that Philips titled "Out of this world". Jabba: Solo! Come out, Solo!
Han: Right Here, Jabba.
That's the line where it starts.
In the third film, the meolody can be heard when Princess Leia is bartering with Jabba over Chewbacca. (The whole thermal detonator thing) The tuba is heard a couple of times, but the theme is carried by (it sounds like) bassoons and some higher instruments.
According to the notes in one of my soundtrack sets, the "Jabba's Theme" piece was composed as 'filler' for the soundtrack and never meant to be used in the film.
For the record, I like the "Jawa Theme" from the first film better as a tuba solo. It's about a 30 second ditty, but it's perfect for the scene.
