I was on eBay and saw a 35mm photo strip of the 1995 tuba conference for sale.
Then I exclaimed "Hey, it's Mike playing his Yamaha Eb."
Funny! You can sell anything on eBay. It's good photo of a great player.
Cheers Michael!

Two great players -- the walking music stand is Alain Cazes.

I can't believe I didn't recognize him. I still picture Alain with the "Fletcher" facial hair. Mes excuses Alain.
I think you had to have that look to play Eb.

You must mean when Alain had this "look?"

ha, ha, great shot of Mike and Alain. I remember this - it was a performance art piece for ITEC involving strolling tuba players converging at a prearranged spot on the campus. Called "Right Lane must Turn Right", or something to that effect, it was clever and intriguing, as unaware passers by became aware of the sounds around them. It was a hot day, and my "human music stand" bought me a beer.

Here is the piece you speak of. Sorry about the ink blots and the poor quality of my copy. There are 2 images; 1 for instructions, 1 for the music...

I'm just amazed of what ends up on ebay.
Scott, I'd love to take a trip back to Alberta and have a pint with you and Mike.
And Dave, Scott, JF in Calgary.
Someday.

That 1995 conference was the last time I saw two of my heroes, Mr Jacobs and Ev Gilmore. Also when Roger Bobo introduced a pile of European performers, several of whom have been very well-known since.
As for me, I'm still frequently playing the same Yamaha 621 E-flat with Miraphone C3 mp; recently for Enigma, Orb and Scepter March, New World Symphony (it's perfect for the soft chorales) plus quintet. It still looks pretty good, but some of the silver plate seems to have rubbed off into my hair ...
I had forgotten that it was Alain who so kindly held my music. I've seen him once each in Calgary, Vancouver, Chicago and Montreal. He's a fine musician with some excellent arrangements for tuba-euph quartet.
We had some good times in the 80s and 90s playing quartets with the old Beaver Fever Tuba Quartet (a good Canadian name that was not intended to be sexual), and later with Albertasaurus, with Dave Reid, John McPherson, Scott Whetham and me. John also did some very creative arrangements for the ensemble, which might still be available if someone were to inquire.
Forgive this stream of nostagia. It's not often that someone makes me the subject of a discussion on this board.

Mike,
You'll have to see what the picture goes for on eBay--maybe we'll see a lot more pictures of you for sale!
