Hello ! Me again . Need some info on good Eb tuba mouthpieces .I`ve got fairly good on my Eb tuba with a Bb tuba mouthpiece . My tuba is a Amati rotary valve if this helps . Thanks for any info you can give me

I'd be interested in this too. How big a deal is it when manufacturers make the distinction between bass and contrabass mouthpieces?

For example, right now I play a dennis wick 2L on my Eb. It's sold as a bass mouthpiece but I'm starting to find it a bit big for my Eb but kind of nice on my CC...

The PT-90 mouthpiece worked well for me with rotary Eb tuba.

I've seen a lot of guys with Dennis Wick's that love them on their Eb.

On my 983, I used to use the Arnold Jacobs Helleberg Solo (from CB), and now use a blokepiece with the Atlas No. 1 solo cup (and 32.6mm modified helleberg rim). I also used the AJ mouthpiece on a 982 for a while when I was required to play one, but in retrospect wasn't totally happy with that combo.

I use a Dennis wick 3 myself .wonderful on my Bb Besson .not so hot on my Eb

A Dennis Wick 3 works really well on my Eb. I have also used a Blessing 18 with as much sucess. I believe that Besson/Boosey EEb tubas are not too mouthpiece sensitive and can be played with quite a few different mouthpieces. (I know of a player who uses a PT-48, another a Schilke 69c4, another a Yamaha Jim Self, another a Yamaha Roger Bobo) I'm sure the list could go on...

For the OP, what mouthpieces have you tried so far?

I`ve tryed about ten different ones so far , bach 24aw, conn heliberg , higham E , dennis wick 3 ,marcinkiewicz N4 ,Marcinkiewicz rose model ,Deg 18, chinese 24 ,Alliance T3 ,Holton 52. The Marcinkiewicz N4 works the best with my Eb tuba so far .

I have a few I have liked.

Sellmansburger Imperial.
Giddings and webster Taku, Diablo, or Alan Baer solo F
Denis wick 4

Note that a our Eb tubas tend to be piston type, which some would say makes a difference. I might have noticed this difference with my Eb rotary helicon, or I might not have.

As for the DW 2L - not a bass mouthpiece. The specific DW series
bass mouthpiece is 5 (5L), but 4 would be something to look at if you like a small mouthpiece with large bore. The DW 5 is fairly deep, relative to its size, and funnel shaped, not a real bright mouthpiece I'd say.

Rudy Meinl 9 (a rebranded Bruno Tilz MP) and Wick 3

On my Eb Besson New Standard I use a DW 2 used to use a DW3 and learned on a DW 5

On my Asian clone I use a DW 1L or a 2SL

On my 26k I use a Kellyberg or a Besson 24

All work for me but every now and then as eBay presents cheap alternatives I try different MPs but I keep coming back to my DW mouthpieces.

A lot depends where you use your Eb and the role you're trying to fulfil with it.

The OP is using an Amati rotary Eb which I presume would work well with a fairly traditional F mouthpiece - shallow bowl like a C4 or any variants?

On the big piston comp Besson Eb's a lot of players use them in an almost contrabass role (some with tremendous success). They can play with huge sounds with a 24AW (although I never liked them), Wick 1, 2 or 3 or all sorts of Helleberg variant.
Trouble can be that if you're trying to knock out solo rep on a big Eb with a pretty big mouthpiece things can get difficult in clarity of tone & articulation and generally get a bit woolly for my taste.
The Wick 4&5's are unusual as the diameters are very small but with deep cups.

For what it's worth I play a Besson 980 (17" bell) with a G&W Szentpali F these days. My 980 is notably lightweight. The combination works great for me.

When playing rotayry Eb, I had very good luck with a Bloke symphony and also the G&W Matanuska (helleberg style)

Doug Elliot makes several great combinations for E flat tuba.
