Names are culturally founded, so I at once recognized Elkjer as the Norwegian variant of the Danish name Elkjær, which means the pond or the swamp with alder.

Anyway Robert Elkjer writes a lot for top professional players including studio musicians in NY. Doesn’t exclude more forthcoming writing, but if that is a parameter for selection, I would try getting a preview. Which is a problem in its own right, currently much debated on a woodwind list I follow. The web expands awareness of availability, but still many older players miss the browsing through the display cases of good music stores of 3 or 4 decades ago.

Bob was at the U of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) for a while when I was there, in the mid 1970s. Fine trumpet player. I hated to see him go. Lost track of him.

I absolutely love his stuff. But you had better have your wits about you. It's usually not sightreadable.

I have several of his arrangements for brass quintet and they are fantastic. Many of them were done for the NYPhil BQ. I agree with the earlier poster that his work is difficult to master, but well worth the effort.
