I had the great fortune of working with him at Aspen and Juilliard. What a fantastic musician he was. I will never forget a rehearsal with him in Aspen where the afternoon rain storm had just passed and it was very humid. He was working particularly hard to get us to properly interpret one passage, and the light was just right so we could all see steam slowly coming off the top of his head. It was an amazing thing to see, and very emblematic of his passion. One of my all time favorite conductors. RIP Maestro DePriest. You left the world a better place.

The first concert that I heard the National Symphony (Washington, DC) play was conducted by Maestro DePriest. The program of Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, Tchaikowsky's Symphony #6 and Beethoven's Violin Concerto was wonderful. Maestro DePriest's stellar musicianship came through in grand style.

The world has lost another virtuoso. Rest in peace, Maestro.
