I'm working on a project and am hoping someone might have the list of repertoire that was asked for the tuba audition for the New York Philharmonic spot that Warren Deck ultimately ended up winning. I appreciate your time and look forward to reading whatever you guys come up with!

I took that audition. There were 23 to 25 orchestra passages on the list in addition to sight reading and Kraft's, Encounters 2 for a solo. My copy of the actual list has disappeared over the interceding 33 years.Some of the excepts that I definitely remember being on the list are as follows:

- Til Eulenspiegel
- Webern, 6 Pieces
- Overture to Die Meistersinger
- Prelude to Act 3 of Lohengrin
- Hungarian March

There were many others, but, I don't remember exactly what they were.

I was also at that audition. I didn't think I would be invited, but I submitted a tape and I was invited to play. I showed up with only my 186. That's the only tuba I owned (still might be the best tuba I ever owned, but that's another thread). I remember practicing the Kraft a lot. When we got there, they apologized for asking for it saying they didn't realize how difficult the piece was. I went in right after Toby Hanks, which psyched me out immediately. The first excerpt I played was Til and immediately cracked the high Bb right in the beginning. From behind the curtain, someone said, you can do that again. So, I cracked it again. They let me play a few more excerpts as they drank coffee and clanked their cups, but I knew I blew it. The ride home was lousy, as I had a fever, it was snowing, my 61 Plymouth Valiant had no heat and I was on the LIE during rush hour. I can't recall many of the other excerpts they asked for. I don't believe The Ride was on it. I don't remember seeing that on audition lists until much later. Sensemaya was on it as was Bruckner 7.
