Re: Question about adding a 5th valve

This should work out well for you and not throw off the scale at all. With the tuning slide in you may even see an improvement in the sound and response of the horn in general.Grooving for Heaven wrote:I'm considering adding a 5th valve to my piggy. This horn plays like most cerveny's with a vertical tuning slide that I've played, and the tuning slide need to be out 75% of way or more to play A440.
when I add the 5th valve, I'm considering putting it between the leadpipe and the 1st valve, but NOT cutting the leadpipe, but instead lengthening it by two inches. I see this as potentially a smart way to go for a few reasons
1. if I don't like it, it's reverse-able
2. I'm super tall, (6 footso it puts the leadpipe at a better position for my face
3. It lets the main tuning slide be an inch more in
I'm of course concerned it will throw off the scale for the rest of the horn, but then again, I'm adding two inches right before the valves, and removing two inches right after. The main difference I see I'm adding 2 inches of cylindrical tubing, because the tuning slide is conical.
input?
