Brian... I also have a couple of ideas but don't really have the time to work on them. I guess it's going to have to be a simple matter of establishing some different priorities one of these days.

- Using magnetics to eliminate piston springs.
- Solenoids operated by a keypad that operate pistons or rotors to enable those with handicaps to keep playing.
- A collapsible detachable tuba bell that will fit into an attache case.
- More 'tune-on-the-fly' options a la Marzan main slides.
- A universal mouthpiece shank that's quickly and easily tuned.
- General ergonomic improvements.
and the list goes on.......

About the artificial embouchure... that one is a 'toughie'. There are many variables involved. Electronic tones don't work, either. Gotta have those 'chops' vibrations.

I understand you can make an IWI sound like a tuba. It probably doesn't sound EXACTLY like a tuba but it doesn't have lips and doesn't have to be fed, either!

Making the actual tubas may become a lot easier with some progress in the area of 3D printing. I would not be at all suprised to see mouthpieces produced this way within 1 or 2 years and at least parts such as bells within 5 years. Entry level printers are already available C $1000.
