Hello fellow tubenetters,

Do any of you have a skeleton set of A Touch of Tuba by Art Dedrick that I could borrow? It is out of print and I can't seem to locate the band parts. It is published by Kendor.

Thanks very much.

The Chatfield Band has a music lending library. Try this link:

Hope it helps.

I have the full arrangement (I used to do this solo with various bands myself - it's lyrical and fun).

I have emailed you.

We're also doing A Touch Of Tuba at our April concert along with Tubby The Tuba and Tiptoe Through the Tubas. This concert itself is titled Tiptoe Through The Tubas. Marty Erickson is coming down to do Tubby The Tuba. At least we're not doing Them Basses or Bombasto.

I highly recommend "Basses Conquest" by W.P. English (tuba player and circus bandmaster) - the tubas have the obbligato in the trio.

PS - There is nothing wrong with Them Basses - it always works.

This isn't on YouTuba or anywhere else that I can find- do you know if it's anywhere online where we can listen to it?

Big Joe!

We have it in our library. I don't know if we ever recorded it on digital media. I think I may have a cassette recording of when Merle Evans (band leader for Ringling Bros for 50 years) used to roll into town and do a circus routine with the band on his way up to the "Great Circus Parade". We're doing a circus concert this summer and I'll see if we can include this. All of our concerts are televised so I will post it from that on YouTube.

I don't have a problem with either of these. It just seems that most conductors when they want to schedule a tuba feature can only think of a handful of tuba feature pieces. I've played "Them Basses" so many times I think I can play it backwards in my sleep.

Thanks much, in advance.

Our conductor wasn't familiar with "Big Joe"- it doesn't seem to be as well known as "Them Basses". But he is now, and fortunately he liked it, so we're playing it this season.

Looking forward to hearing "Basses Conquest"- we must expand our tuba-centric horizons, mustn't we
