I am not familiar with this artist. Did he (ever) play tuba?

Ah, David....
It's obvious that you are not Canadian...
Stompin' Tom wrote songs and played music that celebrated being Canadian.
His most famous song is "The Hockey Song" aka "The Good Old Hockey Game"which is frequently played at ice hockey games in the US and Canada.
Not tuba and not sophisticated but lovable none the less...
RIP Stompin' Tom

Nope, not a tuba player but an icon and great musician. I feel like some of his songs would make pretty cool tuba quartet arrangements though. (then again, most audiences would love an arrangement of the hockey game song even if it wasn't a good arrangement)

He had a tough life but did live it well, with courage, talent and love for his
country and his fans.
