Gnagey Tuba Cases

So I recently became the very proud owner of Sam Gnagey's latest masterpiece, and now I'm looking to get a case for it. I've done a some research and it seems like the Cronkhite gig bags are pretty much the best cases out there. I'm pretty careful with my tuba, so it would be more for ease of transportation as opposed to protection. What kinds of cases is everyone using for their custom tubas? Mine's half Holton and half King 2341, about 34" tall with a 19" bell. Does anyone use a hard case?

I once bought an Altieri bag for a 52J (18 in. bell.) I sold the 52J and used the bag for my Gnagey (19 in. bell)! It was tight on top, but it worked fine. I sold the Gnagey and now use the bag for the 3450 (17.5? in. bell). If you order an Altieri bag for a 54J (19 in.) or 56J (20 in.), it will fit very well. I like top loading bags, so you don't have to lie the bag down on the floor to put the horn in it. It has good straps too.

One of my friends here has a Gnagey, and uses the Cronkhite King 2341 bag (as I do for a very similarly sized horn).

The chronkite bag that fits the Kanstul 33, 66 etc. should work nicely. Call the horn guys, they will set you up. The hard case option is the one from SKB. There are two sizes of tuba cases. You'll want the smaller one. My horn has a similar size bell but my height is a little shorter. I added a piece of foam in the end of the hard case to keep mine from moving. You likely would not have to do that.

Here ya go, Bob! If you'd like any other views, just let me know and I can post those as well.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'll get some more measurements of my tuba and contact Cronkhite and Altieri and see what they have to offer. Mike, do you have any pictures of your 2341 Cronkhite bag you could possibly post? I think long-term, I'll end up getting both a hard and soft case, but being a broke college student, I think starting with a gig bag would be my best bet for now.
If I remember correctly, I believe Sam had a Reunion Blues case for his personal horn, which is also a Holton/King like mine.

That looks like Sam's "standard" 4/4. I'd love one of those someday too...

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like it! Its a 4/4, although when I saw it for the first time, I actually thought it was a 3/4, since its a rather compact horn. The picture is kind of deceiving. The silver half is from a 1923 Holton Eb, and the rest is from a mid-70's King 2341. I love everything about this horn, and I would definitely recommend Sam's work to anyone looking for a quality CC tuba. I couldn't have asked for a better tuba! I plan on keeping this thing forever, which is why I want to protect it with a good case. Are you planning on buying Sam's next horn Bob? I didn't realize he had already started another one.

No, I'm buying the first CC in 6/4 from Tubadoor who bought it from timcarlo who bought it from Mr. Gnagey...It had a belt on it but somewhere down the line it was lost or someone didn't feel it was necessary like Mr Gnagey did<s>Did he need one for yours?? I'm looking forward to feeling like you do and never letting it go..Thanks for the picture.........................BB
