Two interesting posters outside Lincoln Center

Post by rodmathews »

I was walking past Lincoln Center today, and saw two tuba-related posters out on the sidewalk.

First, Carol Jantsch is doing the New York premiere of a new concerto on April 5 with the Temple University Symphony Orchestra. The poster really looks cool from a distance - the tuba bell really pops:

Second, the Little Orchestra Society is doing Tubby the Tuba this weekend. However, there is no tuba soloist listed. There IS a cello soloist listed. Could they be doing it on cello? Really? This has to be some kind of mistake.

not on their website either! but doesn't Tubby have a line about melodies coming from odd places or something? maybe they are taking that up a notch.

Marcus Rojas, possibly?

Here's the text from the website - no tuba mentioned.

Patti Smith narrates Tubby the Tuba

David Alan Miller, Guest Conductor

Lane Alexander, Tap Dancer

Nathan Chan, Cello

Patti Smith, Narrator

Min Xiao-Fen, Pipa

A classic piece presented by an iconic artist. Guest narrator Patti Smith brings her passion and perspective to the whimsical Tubby the Tuba. As our Orchestra plays this timeless piece and others, we learn how melodies and soloists can come from nearly anywhere - even the tapping of a shoe! Ms. Smith is a National Book Award-winning author, rock musician, photographer and poet.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Hmmm ... maybe Tubby's in Florida for spring break, and his friend Chubby the Cello is filling in for him?

Marcus Rojas plays in that orchestra, so I had assumed he was playing it?

Regardless of who's playing it, isn't it reasonable to expect the tubaist get some kind of billing for Tuba the Tuba?
