Hi!
I know I already have a college post already up, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they know of anything specifically from the VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL?
Thanks!

Charlie Menghini, who I think is President of the college and Band Director, is a helluva band director. If you want to learn about marching band, there are fewer better around. He was at Winnetonka HS in Kansas City for years before going to VC. Great guy, great musician, great teacher.

Would he be teaching me there is another question.
Does anybody have any other opinions on VanderCook or UMemphis, or UIowa?

Charlie is very "hands-on". I completed my Masters from VanderCook and from what I can tell, it is a small music college that really focuses on how to TEACH music.

VanderCook was established more than 100 years ago and has always focused on the training of music educators. Suprisingly, the school is far better known outside Chicago than within. It is a small school nestled next to the campus of IIT. There is some apparent relationship with IIT in that VC students can take their general ed classes there and can live in IIT housing. VC has had some struggles during the 1980's and 90's but has recently rebuilt its faculty and academic program. It is well worth investigating, along with DePaul, CCPA (Roosevelt) and some of the other better known Chicago schools.
