Good day,
I've got a bit of a problem. I got a set of bloke buttons in the mail today (done with the gold h-kote, Dave did a great job with these) when I was taking the old buttons off one of the threads actually broke off in the valve stem. I am not very close to any shop here so by the time I would actually be able to drive out to have a shop fix this problem I could order a new one and have it shipped here. The stem in question is for a Nirschl 6/4 cc tuba. Actually getting a hold of Mr. Nirschl has proven to be very challenging (really am needing some new valve guides) so I'm wondering if another company's valve stems would work. I could very quickly receive stems from B&S or MW but I'm not sure if they would work. If anyone knows a good answer for this I'm all ears right now.

sounds like you need a repairman, not a part.

What Bloke suggested could work. If you've never used an 'easy-out' before, check out some "how-to" videos on YouTube. First the term "easy-out" is a misnomer... there's nothing easy about it. You have to be careful and patient and a little lucky. Here's a pretty good video:

I don't like him using a crescent wrench. I'd prefer using a T-handle where you can turn it without wobbling off center.

If you don't have the tools and skills needed for the operation any competent machinist can help you out. Just look in the yellow pages for "machine shop".

Even making a replacement valve stem is easy if you can find some brass rod stock.

A repair man once broke one of the valve caps of my Willson. He actually got it out with a pick similar to a dental pick and teased it out. I was shocked and amazed.
