Where to get screws for vintage Alexanders?

I'm looking for a screw for a vintage Alexander with 80s or 70s(?) linkage. I only need one, for the top of the linkage(the big screw on top of the rotor, not the smaller ones, but the biggest one.). Thanks, thattubaguy

If you are referring to the screw that goes into the top of the rotor and holds the eccentric collar in place, have your repairman find American screws that will do the job and re-tap the holes. Do all four rotors at the same time even though only one screw is missing.

Thanks, so do you know if there is a site that has some similar to those, but with one grove that goes all the way across the top of the screw that fits a large flats head screw driver?

Hi
M&M Instruments
You should have 3mm screws , we take flat head screws and then re cut to 3mm
If you need them let us know

I probably have screws that match the one you have but you would need to send one to me. If you choose to do that, make sure the one you send fits the hole for the one you are missing. Often... as Randy suggested, these threads are retapped to accept a larger screw. Also... since these threads are quite small, they are easily stripped. I've seen cases where each of the rotor stop arm screws are different.
There are some common rotor screws that work quite well for replacing these stop arm screws but would also require purchasing a tap and drill to enlarge the existing threads:
- Holton F horn 4-48
- King F horn 5-40
- Olds F horn 5-40
- Yamaha F horn (metric) 4 x .7mm
It certainly wouldn't hurt to take Michael up on his offer to send you a screw that fits the current Alexanders. If a 3mm screw is too small... it just won't tighten down.

I've worked on many old Alexanders of this vintage and almost everyone used a 3mm thread although a few were 2.5mm. When in doubt, pull out the calipers. There are enough 3mm screws available so that you don't have to modify your existing threads.
I believe you are looking for something like this.

He's a nice chap to deal with and even with international shipping you should be able to get these quick.

I got some screws that fit, even thought they don't match the others(I got four, I just think that it's fine to leave the other originals.)
BTW, it's a(the)Marzan style 163
