I just uploaded this video for a talent show screening. I am wondering if the folks on tubenet would be willing to give some advice to help me advance further as a tubaist.

You've got an excellent start on this. Kudos for having the courage to post your work and ask for criticism.

The biggest problem I hear is your concept of the staccato notes. In my opinion, they're mostly much TOO short and lack any resonance or real pitch. This is magnified by the slow tempo - keep working to get the speed closer to the marked quarter=150.

Pitch is a little wanky in the high register, but that's a common problem. This will improve as your embouchure strength improves, but do "check" those notes with a tuner and make the appropriate adjustments with the slides/chops as necessary. You may also find some alternate fingerings that help with pitch above the staff.

Lastly, I would encourage you to try and put as much musicality into this piece as you possibly can. As I'm sure you've heard, it's not the greatest piece ever composed and needs all the help it can get in the regard. Especially in the cadenza, try to say something musically with each phrase. It all sounds a bit mezzo-middle right now.

I see exactly why you got accepted. This isn't easy, even with the tempo slower then usual, it sounded great for a straight up live recording, some minor places, but to do it on the contrabass tuba, it's pretty impressive.
