Hi, would I be able to take my horn to somewhere such as a jewelry store and have my name engraved on it?

If you are close to Lee Stofers shop you could enquire of him to engrave it for you.
Personally I think if you want it engraved I would look for silver smith or instrument repair shop to do it before trusting it to a local jewellery shop.
In Ireland most engraving work taken in by shops is sent out for engraving your jewellers may be better.

Artistic engraving said;
The process of engraving cuts through the finish, exposing the brass. To maintain the original finish the engraved areas need to be sealed either with clear lacquer or re-plated to prevent tarnish. The cost for sealing with lacquer or re-plating varies. This service is performed by a local repair shop.
With thanks to LJV's link.
I had assumed that Lee did it all :oops:

If you are near Seattle, Dan Oberloh can do this for you. As well as an ace instrument tech, he's a journeyman silversmith.

If it's just your name, consider "engraving" somewhere inconspicuous or taking it to a repair shop to have them use a dremel to "engrave" your name like they do on school instruments.
If you would be happy with inconspicuous engraving, you could take something like the valve bottom caps that have a little room for engraving to a jewelry engraver and have an adequate job done. The valve bottom caps are small, detachable and, if they get goobered up or you wish to sell the horn, easily replaceable.

Never have been able to understand the engrave for ID thing. The instrument already has a serial number...

You can always put on something ultimately removable... but will stay with it in perpetuity if one decided to do so...

I agree with the previous poster. The question of, "How permanent do you want it?" must be answered.

1. Do you want the engraving to be a totally permanent part of the instrument? Then engrave directly on a part of the instrument, Bell, branch or one of the main ferrules. To remove would require replacing a significant part of the instrument, or filing, sanding, burnishing and refinishing that area to remove the engraving. Probably risking the integrity of the metal in that area.

2. Semi or generally permanent, to most people? Then a name plate soldered to the instrument. Requires melting the solder to remove, then some refinishing work.

3. Easily and totally removable? Then get an engraved name plate with a bracket to clamp it to a brace on the instrument. Only someone with the proper tools can remove it. If done right, will not mar the finish of the instrument when removed.

I know that Sherry has done some great work. Just for reference, how much would a primo job like the BSO bell run you?
