B&S 3098/PT-6 with a detachable bell!
This horn would have been great for me while I was in the Marine Corps. The airline companies never let us check our tubas in flight cases since they were too big/heavy/bulky, so we always ended up buying another seat for the tuba to fly right next to us. The whole experience was always nerve-wracking trying to not dent the tuba in its gig bag while getting on and off the plane and making our way through crowded terminals (DIA was the worst... having to book it from one terminal to another while getting jammed in those crowded trams and having everybody bump into your tuba
) Not to mention all the people who you would make mad because you had a pre-board pass... Then once you get on the plane, having to deal with the flight attendants arguing with you and each other over what bulkhead seat you're supposed to sit in.
Anyway... this would make a great tuba for traveling musicians. I wonder if more modern tubas will start being offered with a detachable bell option.
