Has anyone tried out one of the Hirsbrunner 'Stealth' euphs? If so, how do they play/sound? Are they worth the extra $? I am just curious as to whether hirsbrunner has stooped to a new low of flashy marketing gimicks.

Heck, Joe, why bother with the lacquer? Why not just have it black nickel or black chrome-plated? The finish seems to be pretty popular with the guitar crowd:bloke wrote:I'm going to have to (eventually) get brave and play around with that finish for "fun"...
- buff the instrument out to a smooth not-particularly-shiny finish
- nickel plate it (so it ends up super-shiny anyway)
- lacquer over the nickel plating with translucent black lacquer (regular lacquer with a translucent black tint added)
- engrave it (as the engraving will cut all the way through back to the brass, and look "extra cool")

I saw a Yamaha euphonium fixed up this way at the Yamaha display during the NAMM Show last week. It definately looks cool....

If it's cheap you want, a can of this sufficient to do several good-sized tubas shouldn't set you back more than 20 bucks or so...bloke wrote:Heck, Joe, why bother with the lacquer? Why not just have it black nickel or black chrome-plated?
cost. I'd rather pay Anderson $75 to "regular" nickel plate it, than pay some other place who-knows-how-much-$$$ for the black nickel stuff....

..and NO BUFFING!

(I actually bought a tuba done up like that to cover up the badly worn silverplate. Ugly as sin, but a great player...
