My 2nd Polka Gig!

So this past Friday I played my 2nd gig ever and I thought it went pretty well. It was also the first time I got to use my "Bachonnsing" tuba in action. I worked with the band leader (accordion player) a few times to learn some of the tunes that had more involved tuba parts than just the regular "oomp pah." It was in a tiny town restaurant/bar and we had a decent crowd.

I took a video on my phone of us playing the "Crying Katie" polka. It has the melody in the tuba a bit so I thought I'd share. I only botched a few things (like the descending scale passage after we made the key change...). It was fun because I learned it by ear so I didn't feel too bad for missing some parts that I plum forgot about!

Enjoy and be kind! (Hope the video works for everyone, it's through facebook)

I have to admit, Vernon (the accordion player) makes it easy for me. He plays a push button accordion that only plays in F, Bb, Eb, and Ab and he likes to stay in Bb and Eb, so it's a lot easier to handle!

And thank you all for your kind words!

It sounds like you were having fun and that is important. It seems too often people forget to have fun when they play.
Nice job!!

Thanks! It was a lot of fun. It was from 6-10pm and the only one we repeated was the one I posted, just so I could have another crack at it and get it recorded. It was a hoot and a half!

Hmm....I don't know why it wouldn't. It opened for me and I'm not signed in to facebook either. I can't get it to upload to youtube from my phone, otherwise I would do that. Sorry!

You know when you have hit the big when you start playing for wedding dances and you get paid for it.

Hey, Good job on the second time out! This brought back many memories of doing these gigs in the central
European communities that settled in the central Michigan area.
Good people and great food!!
