Hi, I have discovered a CC B&S tuba. 5 valves. Blue badge on main tuning slide. B&S engraving on bell but no model name. Serial no. 245197 on lead pipe . 5th valve slide comes with a moveable slide that drops down below the 5th valve. Does anyone know what this instrument is? Or can anyone point me in the right direction of how to find out. Thanks.

That sounds a lot like the pre PT-3. The one I formerly owned had two different slides for the fifth valve, one matching that description. Do you have any pics to post?

Upload them through tinypic.com. Right click the image, copy image location, then to post click on the button that says Img. Paste the copied URL between the bracketed commands.

I very much believe what you have there is an ORIGNAL PT-4. The first ones were tall like that with a 19" bell flair and 5 rotor valves of .748" bore. Check those measurements. I also seem to remember the 5th valve wrap being like that instead of tucked back under the valves like later horns. Then, then re-used the PT-4 name on a shorter version that looks like the modern PT-20. The rare PT-5 tubas are chubbier than what that one looks to be but the camera angle can be fooling me.
