As do many others, I always appreciate seeing 2165's (Jake's) pics and, when possible, reviews from the Frankfurt MusikMesse.

One of the pics really caught my attention - that of the Adams 6/4 York CC.

While it looks pretty much just like the HB-50, I'm wondering if anyone here has had a chance to spend any time with this horn and what your thoughts would be, particularly if you think it's just like an HB-50 or if you think Adams has done anything to better/worsen the model.

It is risky to give qualifications after playing only minutes in the noisy surroundings of a fair.
But I must say: my first impression was very positive. I was not a fan of the Hirsbrunners from recent years, but I liked the Adams 6/4 immediately for its musical and ergonomic qualities. Attractive orchestral sound, even through the registers, good intonation and flexibility. Better than their 4/4, I would say.

Caution: its only a first impression. Some technical details have to be addressed (of course, it had to be ready before the Messe!!!). Another question will be about the consistency of production. So, let us wait some time and hope in the meantime the (street) price will come into the reach of normal human beings/tubaplayers. Suggested retail price 18.000 Euro's!!!!!?????? Are we supposed to rob a bank for it?

And by the way: their F Solo is a gem, but rather expensive as well.

I'm moving to an Adams Solo F-Tuba because, like someone said, they are a "gem." They really take their time in craftsmanship (I have to wait until August to get mine) and they use only high quality materials. You also need to understand that the price tag includes Euro. VAT which can add up to a 20% tax.

I may have missed this in the description, but is there an established timeline from placing the order to getting the horn in your hands? I've been keeping an eye on Adams' new tuba line, since their horns seem to really be taking off (and I believe that more competition in the tuba-making business is good for the shopping tubist). I can't imagine that they stockpile these things at all. Maybe if I win the lottery some day, I can order one of these 6/4 horns. I'd love to try the F tuba--I've heard great things about it, and in a handful of years I might be in the position to seriously start shopping for a new F tuba.

Adams quotes 60 day delivery for trumpets and flugels, 90 days for tubas and euphoniums.

I dunno, the Baer 6/4 seems to be popping up left and right. I'm guessing because the owners visualize what a pile of $20,000(+) in cash would look like instead of the tuba.

I'm very close ties with Adams, therefore've been making two visits and I could try out instruments for two whole days.
At first I seemed to have touched the best tools I've played in my life, the second time I was sure that they are the best tools I played in my life.
Tubas are fantastic, have the wonderful sound of the B & S, the character of Melton, and playability of Yama. Tubas are fabulous. All have the same profile, the tubas in Bb, DC and F.
Initially, they were born being Hirsbrunners, however luthiers factory were perfecting the tools to be current.
The color of sound, tuning, bass, midrange and treble, focus of the notes, everything is too perfect ...
The delivery of the tubes is around four months, the 6/4 has a period of 1 year.
Now particularly 6/4, is a tuba sounds very large and the feeling is that we are atra a tuba 4/4, is easy to play. Very important changes were made to the improvement was large relative to HB50. The bells are different, the Adams is a true copy of the York and leadpiper is different too, and pssuir one GAP valve. Other aesthetic differences exist but the important were cited.
It's a fascinating tuba, worth knowing them !!!!

I've played the 6/4 when it was still a prototype. At that time I thought it was a decent horn with a good sound.
The biggest problem I had was intonation and tuning, but I heard it improved over the past builts.

It's free blowing over every register.
