So the Pacific Symphony in Orange County, CA runs this awesome program in which local amateur musicians can play with the pros on-stage. It's a 50 minute rehearsal and performance. This year we got to play Shostakovich's 5th, 4th movement. Needless to say, it was awesome having the honor to play with Jim Self. Jim is ridiculously nice.

I met Mr. Self briefly at a Tuba Christmas event in 2005 and thought he was a great guy! I would love to have the opportunity to play side by side and pick up some pro tips! Congrats!

I was lucky enough to have had lessons from Jim for a year while in college back in 1976-77. So I know first hand that is a very nice guy and a good and demanding teacher. I've had chances to sit down a chat with him over last few years at different events and he is truly a class act!

I met Jim a few times back in college. Super nice guy and a fine player. I was at Tenn Tech just down the road about 100 miles.

Congratulations on having one of the great experiences in tuba playing. I recently hosted a concert with Oystein Baadsvik. During that 2 day period, I got a chance to spend some time with him. What a great guy and learning experience. I'm sure your experience was as good or even better because you got to play on stage with Jim Self. You are truly very lucky.
