I realize it's a quintet arrangement, but Largo al factodum might work with a brass band, too. Never tried it in any other instrumentation, but I love the solo. Fun, not too tough to play. Audience-friendly.

I really like the Philip Sparke tuba concerto. Typical brass band solo really, obvious maybe since it's Sparke... But it floats my boat. There is a decent arrangement of the Vaughan Williams as well, by Phillip Littlemore if I remember correctly.

Capriccio by Rodney Newton is another piece I fancy. Not very well known I think.

I'm a big fan of the Sparke as well. Ellerby is nice, but it can be a bit overdone. Another great piece is Episodes and Echoes. Best of luck picking a piece of music!

If you want to go old school you could try Bass in the Ballroom or Tuba Smarties easy on the audience and easy for the player
Cant carry a tune but I can carry a tuba.

If the band is good? Look at Philip Wilby's "Cyrano" http://www.4barsrest.com/reviews/cds/cd ... WywB4I86nA Very challenging piece but worth it!

Barbara York's concerto "War and Rumours of War" has a brass band arrangement. It's pretty cool, as far as tuba + brass band tunes go.

ooooooo....

Just listened to that. I like that one a lot. It's not too long, modern but not weird, and grooves a respectable amount. (perfect for me) :D

thanks!
There's a great recording of John Fletcher playing this with the Sun Life Stanshawe band somewhere. I might have a copy on Vinyl, I'll have a look.

Dug out my vinyl, and if you can stand the rumble, here is John Fletcher with the Stanshawe Band in 1977 playing Tuba Tapestry:

And here, from the same album, Arnold Fantasy:
