I like the 1903 coin idea.

Where you put the valve in...Is the tubing tapered or parallel?

Reason for my question is that going from ~687 to ~728 is about .110% taper, and that ain't that aggressive.
Many tubas has their tapering far above that on their main tuning U, but there again. That is not in
a step, but OK. A valve will be a disturbance no matter what.

What I mean to tell you. You could enter with a 689 and exit with a 728
I would round off all the inner edges of the tubings. Most important the exhaust ones,
but also the input ones.

This means of course cutting out the space for the valve, not making the horn longer.

I would think at this as a good solution, and it also gives you a 728 5th

Cool!
Good luck with the 5th; it'd be a neat little horn with one.

here's the coin I bought to use for the linkage. I think it will look awesome.

Well....Mine is far from original, but I did manage to press in a 5th in a nice way
Even with a vintage linkage :)

I was thinking of getting 4 US silver coins myselves for the valves
All I can say to that is

It's a nice project you have going there, but it looks difficult to get a good looking
5th circuit from that placement...Or maybe not?

The linkage should be easy enough thou :-)

I took the paddle from an old GDR B&S....It's good that they can come to use too
The pearl slots are 20mm, but if I'm going for the coin thing I'll silver solder them directly
to a bolt with a sanded head or something. Getting it perpendicular could be tricky.

I am not sure of the year...I can find out, but just hasn't bothered yet. I assume ~1910

As for the clockspring paddle. If interested, I still have a few left.

Sounds like you have a plan for the 5th circuit.

I told my-selves that I wanted a 5th, but now playing it. The privileged notes are so
strong and well sounding that 3 valves could actually do it, and probably sound
even better without the 4th and 5th.

I try not to thing too much of that

Will you still have room to "flip" your first valve slide with your "plan C" set up?

Whoaa! That's going to be a huge thumb paddle with a Liberty Head dollar on it. As a numismatist I think that is one really amazing idea. I would sell everything I own to have a horn that awesome.

And, hopefully, G will settle in nicely 2-3-4 and Gb 5-3-4 with only a small lip down or slight pull, etc. Great looking horn.

How much do you think it will weigh when finished?

Nice. Add, "easy to hold onto and carry" to all its other positive attributes.

I know I can't wait to see it! Are the new parts going to be finished in the "frosted" silver like the rest of the horn?
