Joe,
Thanks for sharing, and nicely done!
Good to hear the lesser known of the two Strauss concertos, and the Baadsvik piece is, of course, gorgeous.
You have a nice consistent tone from low to high notes.
I like the way you didn't "punch" the opening notes of the 3rd movement of the Strauss.
Was this your entire recital? I ask because (and maybe this is just a personal thing) I like to hear at least one piece on contrabass in a solo tuba recital.
Other than the obvious (that you love playing the tuba), what is the explanation behind the title of your recital? Did it include a sneak preview of the set of etudes that were commissioned from James Grant (referring to dating)?
Thanks again,
Steve

Steve,
This was not my entire recital. I premiered Evan C. Paul's piece Feldspar for Contrabass Tuba and Marimba (composed for myself and my friend Matt Keown). While it was a good performance of the piece, I personally do not feel that it is ready to be posted on the internet. There are blending issues that need to be worked out between the tuba and marimba. He and I will be performing it on his recital in mid-May. I will most likely be uploading that performance online.
A friend of mine gave me the inspiration for the title of my recital. I was going for the classy Frank Sinatra look for my recital posters...it just happened to work well with the pictures she took. One day she suggested the idea and I thought it worked perfectly.

I got to go to this recital, and the tuba/marimba piece is really nice. Joe did do an excellent job!
