Music Related iPad Apps

Wayne State recently provided me with an iPad. I've never had one before and frankly I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to use it within the purview of my job but when someone wants to give you an iPad you take it first and figure it out later. I already figure I'll use it as a quick and dirty camcorder in lessons to record students' playing and send them the videos.
So...
What are the apps you all use that have applications in studio and/or rehearsal settings?

"TurboScan" to capture sheet music, "forScore" to display it on the iPad.
Two of the five guys in my brass quintet have scanned their entire folder, and use an iPad exclusively on gigs.
They use a mic stand and a simple iPad holder. Page turns via tapping on the screen (there are also Bluetooth foot pedals.)

First, let's talk about the awesome stuff the ipad can do without even mentioning apps! The built in camera is great. Especially when you only need a quick video. If you get the camera connection kit from Apple with USB input, you can use pretty much any USB Microphone with any app that records audio; Your recording needs as a music teacher are covered! (good audio, not necessarily great video, that can be instantly emailed to a student)
Another cool idea is to use the AppleTV in conjunction with the ipad. I use an Apple tv with my classroom projector and a TV in my office for mirroring the display and audio from my ipad - great for lectures or sharing a video on the fly. I can also use the camera app in this setup to show a student what they are doing from different angles that a mirror just won't show (I use it for the trombone section's slide positions and snare drummers' stick height)
Apps!
Here are just a few apps that I use. The best thing to do is sift through the app store. There are so many!
I use ClearTune as a tuner/pitch pipe. It's a paid app but by far the best tuner and pitch pipe that I've used.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cleartu ... 99607?mt=8
There is an iphone app called Clockwork that displays scaled on the ipad and I've found it to be the most accurate at keeping a steady beat and it has a tap function and adjustable accents like the Dr. Beat.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/clockwo ... 38773?mt=8
There is a really neat time management app that some of my students use in their practice sessions called 30/30.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/30-30/id505863977?mt=8
A really cool app that is PC, Mac, Ipad, and iphone compatible is something called Chromatik. It's still in its early stages but it allows you to annotate pdfs and share recordings and annotations with others.
Check it out on vimeo:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chromat ... 75129?mt=8
irealbook - great if you play jazz. It will comp a bass line or piano parts.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ireal-b ... 06806?mt=8
Garage Band is great for recording audio and also has a pretty cool drum machine feature.

Forgot to mention Ricci Adams' musictheory.net ipad apps "Tenuto" and "Theory"
The Finale "Songbook" app for listening/viewing finale .mus files
Decibel 10th - A decibel reader using the built in microphone - if you're a fan of this kind of tool
"Notability" - a cool PDF annotation tool that was installed on my ipad because our students use it in their academic classes, but I found very useful at a conference for taking notes and recording the lecture. It makes separations in the audio track based on what you were typing when a certain thing is said - might be cool in a lesson setting where you can type notes to a student as they are being recorded and it would automatically skip ahead in the recording if you click somewhere in the "notes" section.(this of course would work with the camera connection kit and a USB microphone)
While I'm a hardcore finale fan - my coworkers swear by the ipad app "Notion". It's pricey as far as apps go, but it is the easiest and best looking music notation app that I have seen. It will even export .xml which was purchased by Make Music a few years ago- so it plays very nicely with finale/smart music.

I use the iStroboSoft tuner from Peterson as my main tuner on my iphone, and they have an iPad equivalent. It works great, and picks up the tuba low and pedal range just fine. It's pretty cheap, too (somewhere around $10).

Uh ... XML is an open standard markup language defined by W3C. Make Music may have
implemented XML import and export a few years ago, but they didn't purchase it, and certainly don't own it.
AOBTW, IMNSHO, Notion sukkz huge donkey dong, to wit:
hard limit of 2 (TWO!) measures per system;
transposing instruments must be entered at concert pitch;
export to XML is extremely miss-or-hit (mostly miss, sometimes hit);
no pickup measures;
no multi-measure rests;
no auto-reflow so can't insert a note between two adjacent notes or change a note's duration once a subsequent note has been entered (have to delete everything following insertion/change point first);
can't tie notes in a non-primary voice on a staff (so only the note in the primary voice of a chord or a divisi part can be tied);
can't tie more than two notes consecutively;
tying across bar lines EXTREMELY kludgy (enter notes on either side of bar line, delete bar line, tie notes, select 2nd note, insert bar line between notes);
can only move one note at a time (and only up or down);
on-screen keyboard re-centers on Middle C every time a note is entered (and only displays 2 octaves in landscape view);
...
Notion only survived this long due to the absence of even mediocre alternatives.

I thought make music acquired MusicXML that was originally developed by another company a few years ago... :/ Thanks for correcting my ignorance, just trying to help the OP.

Interesting thread, certainly!
But ran me into problems, as some of the apps are not available on the Danish AppStore. So when asked whether I wanted to change store, I clicked Yes.
Sending me into a bind, as I cannot buy from the US AppStore, because my account is not recognized there.
And I haven’t yet found a way to get back into the Danish AppStore.
Ideas for a solution are welcome.

Just spoke with one of my coworkers about the Notion app limitations and supposedly it is much better with the most recent update. It is well reviewed in the App Store and it is certainly better than any of the alternatives.
Pgym, I'm curious if you've used the most recent version and could share your opinions on it!

And sorry klaus, I do not know if it will help, but try logging out of iTunes or AppStore and then log back in. Or maybe a reset: hold the power and home button until you see the apple logo.

Problem solved itself on the iPad during the hours until next visit in the AppStore. Logging out an application doesn’t really remove an application from the memory. Using enough other applications will push it out.
I bought Notion when it had a very low introduction price. The major upgrade since then was free. I am too deep into working with Finale, so I haven’t really used Notion.
Finale Songbook has been useful in combination with DropBox. At the end of Finale work sessions at my desktop I back up to DropBox. Apparently current projects continue cooking in the back of my memory. If sudden doubts about certain aspects come up, I can take a look very soon, if only the iPad is at hand.
