eh, you will take measurements?
I'm really curious if the tuba and the sousaphone both have the same proportions.
Have fun.

sound great. I would love to see pix as well. Yes if I could find a BBb tuba that plays as well as my Pan American helicon, which is similar to the 14K, I would buy it in a minute.

I don't know about the 28J, but I do own a BBb monster from 1913 (would that be a 32J?) and it shares none of the characteristics of my 14K. Its more like a 38K as far as intonation, sound and response is concerned.

This is my Conn/Pan Am marked "Superior". Not in the best shape, but lots of potential.
I have a similar front action Conn Monster getting a new valve set installed, so I'd certainly sell this one. I do think the sound and response are similar to the 38ks I've played, too.

Re: so far: tuba I've found closest to 14K/32K sousaphone
In the past I owned a 38K, now I have a 40K.
Though the 40K has more resonance and pep than the Monster (and I remember my 38K having similar qualities to the 40K), the tuning tendencies are very similar between these horns. The Monster also has a bit wider sound more typical of the 38K/40K/20K sound.
There are of coarse many factors that might be involved as to why an instrument plays like it does; the afore mentioned 38K/40K are both sousaphones and are both from the early 20's. The Monster is a tuba and is from (around) 1913.
Both the monster and the 40K have had valve jobs, btw.

Re: so far: tuba I've found closest to 14K/32K sousaphone
I am the owner of the tuba that Joe discussed in his post. My cursory research revealed a hand rendering of the Pan American 56J BBb that I believe is the "mother" of this horn as well as the Fischer-Conn on Dillon's website and Frank's Conn Superior. The serial number, based upon those listed on the Pan American Brass Serial Numbers at the Conn Loyalist website, indicates mine was made in early 1931.
Like most verbose folks, I can provide more details ad nauseum.

If Dave Abbott hadn't done me a huge favor, then this horn would still be in Cincinnati
