The valves, depending on what's wrong. Tubas will play with a remarkable variety of dents, but even a no-frills valve replating job will cost more than most routine de-denting.

I'm game. When you say "repaired", exactly what kind of damage and what kind of tuba (age) are you talking about? A destroyed bell or any large branch can really get expensive to re-fabricate.

Here's a gedankenexperiment(iis that the first time the word has been used on TubeNet?). Suppose we take one of the Chicago Yorks and we drop it in the middle of I-5 for a few hours. Then we rescue the carcass and any little bits we can still find and present our illustrious crew of professional brass techs with the box of remants.

Okay guys, sharpen your pencils! How much to resurrect the horn, money being no object (the project is underwritten by a generous grant of a billion yuan from the Gates Foundation)? And what would you charge the most for?

I would charge $40,000 (I don't know how many yuan that is, sorry). I would buy a Hirsbrunner HB-50, sandblast it, buff the crap out of it, go over it with a small hammer to make as many really small dents as possible, overhaul it, buff it some more, hire someone to engrave the bell, buff all the engraving off, and have it plated again.
