Hi-
At my local antique flea market early this morning, I saw this very bizarre oil on canvas painting. It is quite large, and since it was a whole $10!, I bought it--I can't find a signature on the painting, but I wonder what the artist was trying to express---or what they were smoking?! This is one strange painting.. A head/bust, a basket with handles, and an Over The Shoulder Saxhorn....I guess for minds greater than mine....For your viewing amusement....

Oil Painting Lesson Number 3 - Composition

Find 3 random objects and combine them to make an Artistic Statement. Be sure to use Background and Base to provide connectivity between the objects.

(I wrote that without looking - then I found this: http://painting.about.com/od/compositio ... ules_2.htm )

He's obviously wondering if it's worth trying to iron out the dents that make the horn sound sour, or just toss the whole works in the wastebasket.

or, as a nursery rhymer might put it...

A-tisket, A-tasket, a saxhorn and a basket.
Disgruntled owner looks askance
at wrinkled bell sans resonance.

That's not a dent in the bell... it's the rest of the head, as viewed through the clear Lexan bell. Obviously a modern over-the-shoulder P-saxhorn. The sour look on the face is because the horn is a basket case.

But interestingly enough, the reflection contains a neck, where the bust does not.

Title it "Dilbert's Refinished Sympathy"
