I'm trying desperately to find a new private teacher, one who specializes in tuba, and I have gotten no where for months. I've plateaued and I don't know where to go. I'm looking for someone near Elkhart, IN that is an advanced teacher. I can play grade 4 and 5 solos and I have a pretty good solid tone. I'm the first/second chair in my band, long story, and I'm a freshman, soon to be sophomore, at my high school. I've been playing for about 3 years. My range is a Bb three ledger lines above the staff (highest note I can hit), the f below that is more probable, to the 1 and 4 combination below the double Bb which I think is an E. I have experience with only a BBb tuba. I anyone knows anything on this subject please do not hesitate to reply; all help is appreciated. Thank you.

Contact the tuba instructor at Western Michigan University, Jacob Cameron.
A really fine player and relatively close by. Also Jerry Lackey who is in South Bend I believe.
Also Roger Lewis who is a tubenetter

is Chicago close enough? I've heard of a couple people there who may be "advanced" enough for you.

A possibility - right where you are is Ken Hughes. He did his masters at Northwestern in 65/66 with Jake. He was working at Conn. Don't know if he does any teaching but, it could be worth tracking him down.

I believe Roger Lewis still lives right there in Elkhart. He would be an excellent choice.

I'm pretty busy, but I do accept a few private students. I enjoy teaching serious students. My studio is not far from Elkhart in Auburn, IN. PM or email me if you want to make contact.
